Bill Nye the Union Guy ✊️

@luckytran

I love that instead of an in-joke about who he is, his sign just says "ON STRIKE!" Because if you ask him why he's striking, he'll give you a charming, funny, and scientifically accurate explanation of why the WGA is striking and why that's important, and the time just FLIES by and later that day you're thinking about it and smiling again, when suddenly it hits you: THAT was the in-joke.

@luckytran True story: In Feb 2006 I found myself at Bill Nye’s surprise wedding to Blair Tindall. Rick Warren officiated. Music provided by Yo-Yo Ma on cello and Michael Hawley on piano. Pretty sure Sidney Poitier sat behind me the whole time (he followed me around the whole day, never saying a word). Nye’s marriage to Tindall lasted what, 6 or 7 weeks (google it).

Whole experience was bizarre. Only regret: not becoming best buds with Sidney Poitier.

@luckytran Unions are necessary when the top has massive & obscene power & greed💵💰.
The public needs to support by not purchasing movies or going to theaters.
@MichRVer @luckytran The WGA and SAG-AFTRA have not called for a boycott. Continuing to support productions that have already been made under union rules will support union members and prove that there is demand for their work.
@luckytran Why wouldn't he be? He played Upton Sinclair in the Netflix movie Mank. Turns out he's a lot like his character (who was a real person and whose novel OIL! off of which There Will Be Blood was based entered the public domain this year!)!

@luckytran Yeah, he propably doesn't mind explaining unionization and collective bargaining to 12 year olds...

Also #SafetyGlassesOn cuz eyes don't like direct sunlight!
