What's the deal with sh.reddit?

What's the deal with sh.reddit? - programming.dev

Anyone know why sh.reddit.com [http://sh.reddit.com] exists? Is it something they plan to use in future? ATM, it just looks justlike reddit.com [http://reddit.com] with a few small style differences.

For me that UI style kept appearing for me while signed out. The dedicated subdomain is news to me.

Edit: It is a read-only experience. If you try to reply or vote, you'll be asked to sign in even if you are already.

Hmm I didn’t have to log in and I’m able to see everything and reply. I just upvoted a few things while on it. Maybe it only works for a subset of users?
