Do you consider the term "rice" or "ricer" to be racist? - Lemmy

The Wikipedia definition [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner] seems to indicate it has origins as a racist term and I’ve never understood why unix users have adopted this terms instead of something benign like “themes” or “theming” which I remember being in use long before I ever heard “rice”. So what gives? Why use “rice” instead of “theme”?

Yes, it is a derogatory term from car modification. Taking away the context doesn’t make it any less racist.
Changing the context of a word can’t change its meaning or intent? That’s a complete misunderstanding of the English language. We have tones of words that are spealt and pronounced the same that can mean different things.
Ok so show me a context where the N-word would be acceptable.
One black person talking to another using it in a reclaimed manner.
Says who? And, is that what’s happening with the use of Rice or Riced in this community?
