About to apply for a “data scientist” job with the same level of discomfort that I used to have for “network engineer” jobs twenty years ago (when I actually had the title “Internet Engineer, Lead.” Like sure, I’ve done literally all the work required for the job, but I feel like I haven’t earned the title. I continue to have my doubts about whether any tech work reaches the standards required for any reputable professional accreditation.
Also if I’m a “data scientist” does that mean I can wear a lab coat for work? Are safety goggles required? Stand back! I’m about to manipulate data, for Data Science™!
@fedward FWIW, the data scientist on our team does not wear a lab coat.
@IMGoph @fedward had a guy I worked with start showing up wearing a lab coat. He refused to answer questions about it. Hilarious!
@samerfarha @IMGoph @fedward TBF I loved my lab coat when I worked in a lab. It kept me warm, had those big ol' front pockets and then side slits so I could reach my pants pockets. Livin' the dream.
