This is one of the dumbest headlines I’ve ever read. If they lean blue, vote fucking blue… I mean should they vote red just because they don’t live in the city?

lynnyUnfortunately both rural and coastal voters seem to want to treat each other like strawpeople instead of actually learning about one another. Can’t tell you how many times people assume everything about me just based on the fact I’m from the midwest and don’t live in a large city.
I’m in the same boat, I live in a very rural area in the Midwest, and I lean blue, but I’m not distraught as to what to do about it. I just vote blue 🤷♂️. I’m not saying people living in rural areas are dumb, I’m just saying that this particular headline is dumb.

Some young rural voters get educations, develop a more realistic world view, and then move to a city because that’s where the good, higher paying, jobs are. The ones that don’t get educations stay rural, ignorant, and poor. Stay in school, OP.

Pretty much. As a young, educated transplant in a tiny rural town (random job took me there for a couple years), I had a completely different world view than the locals. There was a promising 16-year old asking me a lot about college and what it was like, etc. After I moved away I found out he never left, got a girl pregnant, and now lives and works in that small town like everyone else. Alas the cycle continues. They all continue to fly their trump flags while being unable to afford healthcare and groceries.
As someone who is barely in their 30s and barely outside a rural area, chances are they’re going to vote Trump.

WhiteOakBayouChipping away at the support the Republicans have among rural voters is a worthwhile task for the Democratic party. They have to find some way to get their economic message out there.
According to NPR, rural young voters votes for Democratic Party 50% of the times. I suspect it’s a bit more than that. Yes, this is the target rural demographics to focus on.
Vote for the candidate more likely to lead to an amicable future.

I’m a millennial rural blue voter.
I make it a point to go into conservative spaces and make them uncomfortable.
I'd say they probably lean red, especially young men these days.
Vote for who you think is the best.
The answer is clearly to vote blue. A hard look at rural issues would point to conservative politics being the problem. If you’re rural, and you support democracy, you should look at legislation, their impact, and other things, and the answer you’re going to find is to vote blue.

I’m absolutely astonished the young Republican believes cost of living in rural NC is too high, and that’s why people don’t move back to her towm of 400.
That’s the conclusion she draws?
Young people vote Democrat because Democrats are the only party even attempting to govern, attempting to deal with climate change, not being overtly bigoted, not storming the capital, etc, etc.
Young people get their news from Reddit and lemmy instead of Fox News.
