I wanted to try something new and interesting for this #DwarfFortress embark, so I picked a haunted region near a dark elf tower and a bunch of dark goblin pits. Thought it would spice things up!

When the snow started to melt, it uncovered the landscape... which is SOAKED in human blood. Everything, everywhere, just nothing but blood. Even the frozen river is covered in blood.

I... I think I got what I wanted...

It is now autumn of the first year, and the blood is still frozen...
Well, that... uh... that explains some things. #DwarfFortress
@twipped each mm of rainfall will give 1L per square meter, which contains about 1g of iron. Assume 500 to 1000mm rainfall per year?
So that might be a practical renewable iron source!
@Dangerous_beans @twipped I still haven't gotten a chance to play it. But with everything I've heard about Dwarf Fortress, I can't rule out extracting iron out of blood as a real mechanic or not.
@markisherwood @twipped you would have to add it as a custom reaction, and i don't think there's a way to collect blood or other, snow

@twipped white and red, it seems to me like a *very* on brand Christmas fortress 🎅

Be sure to send out crafts and toys when the merchants from the mountainhome come visit!

@twipped Are you streaming or recording for later anywhere? Dwarf Fortress never fails to entertain me, but risky embarks moreso, since I never attempt them myself.

@mystical_alexis nah, too many family interrupts to stream.

So far its been surprisingly docile, I keep expecting the worst and nothing has come.

@twipped May you have plenty of time to get some defenses and basic needs. :curtsies to a player with far more daring:
@twipped The blood fields are beautiful this time of year.
@twipped Do you also get blood rains? I had a past fortress where it frequently rained Elf Blood, with the added bonus it would freak out traders, causing them to drop all their trade goods and flee.
@Lells this is a cold environment, so its always snow. I haven’t noticed any conspicuous piles of goods anywhere…
