Check this out! Our microwave died & when it was removed, we found THESE in the vent! What kind of eggs do you think they are? (I’m HORRIFIED to think that we were cooking these while we used the microwave!) #birds #birdwatching #birdsofmastodon
@rabbijill whoa whoa whoa, you have a microwave... vent?
@kevinbowrin we can’t really figure it out either. The guy who was installing the new microwave found them.

@rabbijill Previous owner must have had one of those fancy wood-fired microwaves 😁

Depending on the size, could be chickadees. https://happyacres.blog/2015/04/15/nesting-chickadees/

Nesting Chickadees

I was pleased today to learn the true identity of the birds nesting in one of the PVC nest boxes in our back yard. I had posted the below photo on my FB page on Saturday, after I was convinced it w…

@kevinbowrin we have a lot of chickadees around but the eggs are not speckled that that photo you sent
@rabbijill Difficult to tell how large these are. Are you sure they are bird eggs? If they're small, they could be gecko eggs.
@oboistaalli omg. They are around 3/4 - 1 inch

@rabbijill @oboistaalli

My first thought was gecko eggs too. They are notorious for laying eggs in every nook and cranny.

I suppose you would find them in other places too though so maybe some sort of bird?

@girasoli @oboistaalli I’ve never seen a gecko in our house and the microwave is high up - over the stove!
@rabbijill @oboistaalli
High up is no problem for a gecko. You will even find them on the ceiling ... or in my case one morning on my toothbrush! I lived in Hawaii for many years. They were permanent guests.

@rabbijill Could be gecko. This page (lots of weird ads) has a chart of gecko egg sizes:

@rabbijill Maybe a house sparrow, they’re actually in the weaver family of birds and are notorious for building nests in vents.
@kroltanz thank you Richie!
@rabbijill no problem! We pulled a 6’ long nest out of a dryer vent once. Although I hate to destroy nests, this was a fire hazard! Also, house sparrows are very common in NA, a species introduced from Europe (I think?)
@kroltanz we did have a house sparrow build a nest in a dryer vent in our old house and it was a fire hazard too!
@rabbijill Um, where was your microwave located that a bird could best in it's vent? 🙄😟🤢
