Well dang. This toot really hit a nerve

In better news, I'm actually now back to a single monitor for the foreseeable future. Finished this gig and handed back all the equipment they sent me

@cypnk There's a purpose to xeyes. Why is this ancient wisdom lost in the present?
@mdhughes @cypnk
Thank you for mentioning xeyes, I had completely forgotten about it after all these years. I’m off to install it on my Unix and windows machines.
@dokuja @cypnk I feel bad for ya son, I got 99 problems but a shitty windowing system ain't one.
@cypnk Enlighten me.
@jurjen1973 The secret of life is mastering the single monitor first
@cypnk This is why my cursor is extra big and pink. 😁
@araucana @cypnk yep! Though also my work Mac has a useful accessibility thing where if you shake the mouse it makes the pointer really big for a few seconds.
@Emily_S @araucana Every OS should have this feature
@cypnk @araucana yep. I discovered it on my first day using it by accident and have used it so many times since. (I've been working there a month)
@cypnk @Emily_S @araucana Windows and most (I think) flavours of Linux have an option to identify where the mouse is when tapping the CTRL key

@Emily_S @araucana @cypnk

Plasma (KDE) draw moving rings around the cursor with Alt+Strg+mouse movement
(Maybe it’s off by default? No idea.)

@araucana @cypnk and my wallet and my coffee thermos and the gaffers tape I use to mark all my tools.
@cypnk I feel seen...
@dgdillman Currently on my laptop because I realized I'm too tired for more than one screen right now
@cypnk On Windows can enable press cntrl to do a sonar ping on mouse pointer. It is in the advanced mouse settings, probably also under accessibility.
@cypnk Colleague during screen sharing: "LOL, why is your cursor ridiculously big?"
@Wabbit Modern problems require modern solutions

@cypnk @lisamelton whenever I lose the cursor, wiggling the mouse makes it grow. I call it the Viagra effect.

*may be a Mac OS thing, I rarely touch Windows.

@cypnk If I could, I'd add a 🤣 reaction to this.
@cypnk that’s so true. The shaking of the mouse then swiping of the mousepad to make sure it’s not just the mouse not working .
@cypnk modern macOS when you shake the mouse too aggressively
@cypnk This wins the Internet today. Thank you 😀
@cypnk yep, this is part of why I am resolutely single-monitor.
@jaymcgavren Switched to the laptop when I knew I was too tired for more than one screen
@cypnk I feel this with Emacs. I got started with that at an age when I shouldn't have. Those key sequences demand precision and if I'm exhausted from a few hours of pair programming, I don't have that precision. It's like the editor starts behaving randomly but it's just me hitting the wrong keys. (And of course I'm doing this in front of a pair, which is not good.)
@cypnk I think Phil Schiller mentioned the feature at a WWDC when magnifying the pointer with shaking was introduced and the room erupted in applause!
@cypnk and the placement of the monitors in the OS is *always* the other way around as they actually are placed...
@40eridani I'm oddly looking forward to VR to some extent only for dropping all this monitor stuff. At least that way, left is left, right is right
@cypnk have 3 displays but using this cursor. 🙂

@cypnk I have 5 monitors (6 if you include my Cintiq) which makes things extra fun.

I enabled the "tap Ctrl to highlight cursor" accessibility option and set the cursor colour to inverted. makes a heck of a difference.

@gsuberland Ooh, that's something I haven't tried (also have a tablet and it's maddening). Thanks for the suggestion
@cypnk if you're on windows, install powertoys and enable double click ctrl to show mouse
@cypnk This is partially why I have pointer warp set to workspace changes in sway, so just selecting another workspace/display will put the pointer in the middle.
@cypnk I love(/s) the times where I'm wildly flailing the cursor and *still* can't see it
@cypnk every day... 😂
Shake that mouse 🐁
@cypnk oh I know this feel, back when I had 2x 2160p... :')
@cypnk if you are on windows, I can highly recommend PowerToys Mouse Utilities’ “find my mouse”
@cypnk @Strit
More often than not, I'm looking at the wrong computer. 😂

@cypnk

*grabs mouse, shakes it manically back-and-forth* Aha! Found you!
