The Fediverse is not looking for growth. It's offering a place for freedom. People joining the Fediverse are those looking for freedom. If people are not ready or are not looking for freedom, that’s fine. They have the right to stay on proprietary platforms. We should not force them into the Fediverse. We should not try to include as many people as we can at all cost. We should be honest and ensure people join the Fediverse because they share some of the values behind it.

@luka Smartphones absolutely did exist prior to 2005.
@luka Well said. The success of the Fediverse as a platform does not require the demise of all others and if actions are taken with the latter objective in mind it will destroy the first.
@luka the only thing my mind keeps coming back to right now is this “freedom” mastodon provides isn’t in a vacuum it’s because that freedom is denied and rejected from others that mastodon’s “freedom” came to be and until those oppressive forces trying to make others reliant on them to survive are no more then the “freedom” mastodon “offers” doesn’t truly exist.
@luka I feel like people should know about the fedi being an option why relying on companies isn’t the only solution before they drift away and make their own universe it’s not about growth it’s more the freedom to know the facts. And have options that don’t automatically exploit you or have options that are supporting your needs. Yes they’re should be buy in but on a leveled playing field. Even if that can’t happen we should acknowledge the game’s rigged.
@luka by the same token, can the fediverse maintain is freedom based principles if it doesn't allow any who wish to federate?

@johnwedd activityPub has no defederation tools

fediverse as a single entity does not exist. and the article i linked to makes generalisations, for sure. but it does speak about some realities (and not about some other ones).

@luka @zyk Thanks for a thoughtful and thought provoking read
