The #Bluesky community is on strike, in protest of “free speech” moderation policies and refusal to prevent or remove #racism.

The inciting incident this time: users signing up with the n-word in their usernames. Using the word “cracker”, however, was a bannable offense.

Bluesky has not responded for over 36 hours as of writing. Devs are blocking protestors. Timelines are filled with variations of:

“No more normal posting until my Black friends and family are safe.”

@Haste Sorta related but weird – there was/is a very popular '90s band named Cracker (which as far as I know wasn't meant to offend one way or the other, at the time). I had a playlist of Cracker songs on YouTube, which I called "Cracker." I got dinged and deleted for hate speech. Cracker's videos are (as they should be) all still up on YouTube.
@cjonthehudson There is so much hate speech on YouTube and that’s what they remove? -.-
@Haste Isn't it nuts? I appealed to their bot and was denied almost instantly. I didn't care except that hate speech is far from my thing.
