we evolved to externalise lots of things. we externalise part of our digestive process by cooking food. we externalise parts of our cognitive process with spoken and written language. we do the same with our gender
so much of our selves happen outside our bodies. this is advantageous because it allows us to move past our bodies' limitations
as a type of creature, we simply love to outsource things
