@gpage 2 deck setup. All 3 of us played at least multiple COIN before, though govt player the least (3/4 games of Gandhi and some FitL.) Unpicking the Marcos patronage and control makes for a good start to the game, and ours started with the San Miguel embezzlement so after turn 1 the Govt was something like 4 over Victory margin.
Still finished on 1986 Snap with Reformers at margin, NPA 2 over and Govt 2 over. None of our acts of desperation went off, but they were a fun handgrenade. Keen to play again.
@gpage I think it makes for a good COIN starting point. Though not handsdown vs Cuba Libre. But it is shorter, and I think demonstrates the necessity of faction interplay more immediately. The immediacy makes it a harsher world than Cuba Libre, but the rules are smoother, and each of the faction roles are more involved. Plus, it's probably easier to find 2 enthusiastic new players than 3!
Also, the standard scenario is only 2 campaign/election cards, but still gets the arc of a COIN game in.
@DearPaidiaic yeah, I wondered how the 2 check setup would work, but looking back at my COIN experiences, I'm rarely pushing past the third anyway...
I'm looking forward to my first play of it now.
