So, what’s the best Evernote alternative now? Last time I looked around, nothing convinced. Needs robust sync and cross device support. Prefer not to be tied into one of the big tech company accounts/user ids. In the past have looked at: Bear, Apple Notes, Joplin, Notion, OneNote… etc. Recommendations? Evernote has laid off most of its US staff and will move most operations to Europe

Evernote parent company Bending Spoons said its layoff of most of its Chilean and US staff and shift to Europe would boost efficiency and take advantage of the Bending Spoons brand.

@ianfogg I've been wondering about a good rep too. My use case is that I write stuff into one set of files and I want instant access (1 or 2 clicks/taps at most) across multiple devices (Windows, Android etc) without faffing around uploading/transferring/running emulators/creating multiple accounts etc etc. I absolutely do not want a service that will force a ton of extra "features" I don't want, especially if it adds hoops to jump through and cost.

I've had Obsidian recommended but reading their stuff I'm not sure it actually fulfills my criteria, and most certainly is stuffed full of features I don't want!

@Zendadaist Joplin looks promising. Am also checking the latest version of Notion.
@ianfogg OK Joplin does look interesting. Now what are the risks and downsides? Who are they selling our device data to?
@Zendadaist Big thing I am going to test first is sync reliability. Anything less than rock solid is a disaster. There is nothing that can mangle data better than bad sync. Backups don't really help because sync can do subtle damage that might not be spotted for months, by which time disentangling parts of backups becomes either super time consuming or impossible...
@ianfogg Yup. I have noticed some sync issues with Evernote over the last year. Mostly they were irritating delays but one of them genuinely totally messed up one of my files in an unrecoverable way and I was pretty mad about it.
