Reading the PDF of Sarah Newton's latest. It's extremely well presented, clear layout, good use of colour and boxed texts avoiding clutter and confusion. Still, it's 400 pages long. Does any RPG need to be so long, especially one derived from Tunnels & Trolls, once the standard example of the short and simple game? With the current state of my brain post-covid this'll take a while to work through.

That said, the content looks terrific.

@BigJackBrass Be interested in your thoughts when you finish. The size is a put off to me. I suspect I’ll like it though.

@cybergoths That's essentially where I am at the moment: it's too big, but it's really good content instead of being gratuitously padded (although you should see how much bigger it is than the unfinished T&T version Sarah showed me a few years ago). The fact I'm struggling to get through it is down to my current illness, rather than any fault of the book exactly.

Sarah writes well, knows her stuff and absolutely *loves* Tunnels & Trolls / Monsters! Monsters!

@BigJackBrass I’m wondering if that’s Sarah said they’re looking to release a player’s guide? It would be nice to have a shorter book with the core rules and advice in.
@cybergoths @BigJackBrass a player's guide will follow, that will cut a chunk of setting and the beastiary. Sarah does write big core books but they are jammed with playable content throughout. @cybergoths knowing you as I do, you would want the core book, and only end up getting it after the player's guide. 😀
@eladrin @BigJackBrass The thing is, I prefer smaller books. Even #Lyonesse (which I helped write) doesn’t get looked at physically because it’s too damn big and I’m sure you can remember my rants about the first edition of the #CityofMist #ttrpg in it’s telephone directory edition. And the less said about #TravellerT5 before it was split into three books, the better.

@cybergoths @eladrin @BigJackBrass apropos of nothing, the original Lyonesse books is in part why "Chivalry and Sorcery Essence" has a "Mountebank" vocation

Of course, now I am scared, as I am looking for a sovereign remedy for sore knees
