What would you say is the average price of the average player’s Commander deck?
@TolarianCollege When they bought it 5 years ago about $50 bucks, now $250.
@TolarianCollege I suspect a much bigger segment than most people realize are at 'unupgraded precon', and another big segment will be 'barely upgraded precon'.
@Fruan @TolarianCollege
I keep thinking about swapping in a fabled passage to one of my commander precons but then the challenger precon I would need to take it from would be incomplete.

@TolarianCollege $230

I know my most expensive deck is about that much but only because of old cards needing reprints. It was originally much less! Most of my decks are around $150. $70 if you don't count cards $2 and under.

@TolarianCollege idk if it's average I'd say the middle is $600 as I see decks that are $$$ all the time. It's not uncommon to see things like mana crypt
@TolarianCollege probably around 100 to 150 dollars, if you start with a 40 dollar precon and then upgrade it over time.
@TolarianCollege 300 bucks median, mostly because that's around the price of the decks that i Really Wanna Build that aren't crazy spiky
@TolarianCollege I'd say between €80 and €100. I think people who engage with EDH or magic in general on social media, will say it's higher, but that is a “very enfranchised player“-bias
@TolarianCollege More now than it was when I paid for it!
@TolarianCollege Averages are difficult. I have a deck that costs nearly $1k and decks that cost $50. It's difficult to judge.

@onua @TolarianCollege I have several decks that are loke 3k-5k and seceral that are $300- $700.

It's really hard to tell what an average for everone it.

I honestly wish cards were more affordable.

@TolarianCollege I'd say the average is 250-300 the median is like 600 cause people with one deck have a precon they edited a little, but I know a lot of people with 10 or more decks in the 1000 range.

Edit (I know more than a couple who have more money in their commander case than the car they drive it around in)

@TolarianCollege I'm a recovering deck building addict with a kitchen table play group. My decks run about US$60 - US$225. Average is probably ~$100.

@TolarianCollege Price at purchase? $60 USD, as precons are probably the statistical majority.

Value at purchase? Significantly less, for the same reason, particularly if players drop the game shortly thereafter.

Value of a regular player's "daily drive" deck? Closer to $100, fluctuating with the meta.

Value of a player's "top tier" deck? Upwards of $350 on average, ranging from $300-700.

@TolarianCollege I have thus far played only precons from wizards so average is probably creeping toward $40 with the new pricing. I absolutely love your build your own Precon series though and am interested in building some that have been presented so far.
@TolarianCollege do we include proxies at full cost? More importantly is a precon the cost at purchase or cost when broken into singles?
@TolarianCollege About a pre-con plus inflation. The biggest group of paper Magic players was always the kitchen table players. People who just buy the odd booster and don't go to events and don't know about different formats but heard about Commander and thought they'd give it a try.
@TolarianCollege according to Archidekt mine average out around $200 but I don't think that is a representation of what I spent on them. Cards have increased in price, or the backbone of the deck is from a precon.
@TolarianCollege I would saybit should be around 100 bucks
@TolarianCollege I want to say $120-200 because even the precons have a lot of value and hit above their weight
