Am somewhat relieved to see this sign that #Tumblr work adopting ActivtyPub is still in the works, albeit with tons less resources than #Threads

… well this is disheartening

@harris @misc @tchambers well, technically speaking, I'm not part of Tumblr since may, they may have started a different project I guess?🀷
@_jv_ @misc @tchambers I hope so, but rereading Matt’s response, it is somewhat ambiguous. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
@harris @misc @tchambers I mean, my reply was more a disclaimer than a real hope. Given how the first time played, I'm skeptical of this second wave
@harris @misc @tchambers here, someone asked one of the product folks still on Tumblr and this is what he has to say on the matter:
@harris @misc @tchambers so I wouldn't count too much on it to happen anytime soon, or even, at all

@_jv_

I’m just glad it isn’t dead. (Hopefully) and when I saw Labs launch I figured that would be its first home.

@_jv_ @harris @misc @tchambers Former Tumblr employee here, Cyle is good people and if anyone at Tumblr knows their shit it is him, this is almost certainly accurate both as a product direction and as an internal vibe within staff. I don't have any insider info but I would trust this post absolutely.

@harris @misc @tchambers @[email protected] Aw dang don't wanna give me a shout out? (I'm the user that asked lol)

Im mostly just glad I got an official acknowledgement of it. The way their CEO dropped it on twitter and there was never followed up on it left me incredibly perplexed.

@oct2pus @harris @misc @tchambers i know, I was working for tumblr when the Twitter thing happened and we scrambled to put together a project. I was the one supposed to do all the web UI work.
Once my backend counterpart did some initial investigation and scoping, and it became obvious it was a complex task and that it would become a cost center without any chance to generate any cashflow, the project was quietly put on long-term hold.

@[email protected] @harris @misc @tchambers the literal only use case I could make up in my head was that it was somehow for integrating WordPress blogs onto tumblr (through the activitypub plugin), which still sounded like a boondoggle but at least it fulfilled some sort of corporate goal outside of "it popped into the CEOs head in the middle of a twitter discussion because it sounded cool and they wasted like a day or two on that before scraping it".

Mayhaps im just assuming Matt is a rational actor when he's just a rich guy who was involved in the creation of One Cool Thing and has rode that ever since.

@oct2pus @harris @misc @tchambers Matt likes media attention a tad too much 🀷
@_jv_, do you have a link to the response?

@rokejulianlockhart here: https://www.tumblr.com/cyle/722492285243293696/serious-question-obviously-youre-not-the-best

(but this is from 3/4ths of a year ago and lots of things have happened in tumblr, so I have no idea of the current status)

cyle

serious question, obviously you're not the best person to talk about mastodon to but like. you reblogging someone that acknowledged that @photomatt said tumblr would implement activitypub; this is cl…
