Norris on hards defending against Hamilton on softs was some serious driving. Hell of a day for Lando.
Thought for sure McLaren made the wrong call there and Hamilton would fly by. But very impressed by Lando there. He earned that 2nd place. Hopefully they can keep this up.

I still maintain it was the wrong call. It only worked because Lando drove perfectly. If Lando made even the slightest mistake, he would have lost that position.

Expecting your driver to be prefect is not the right call.

I agree, he was lights out after the safety car. The McLaren looked quick though.
Stella said on C4 that they intended to go for the hards because of the vsc, but the full safety changed things, however they didn’t have time to then get the soft tyres ready in the pits. Basically there was a higher chance of losing positions by the time lost switching to softs in the pit lane.
Interesting thanks for sharing that.
I thought it was fairly obvious that the vsc would turn full based on where the car stopped so that was still a small error on their part, but yeah, there’s always lots of things to take into account and it’s not always a simple x or y decision.

Incredible performance from both Norris and Piastri!
Great race from McLaren, surprising the pace they suddenly have here! I feel for Piastri, would have loved for him to get his first podium here.
Yeah, a bit of bad luck with the safety car. Great drive to keep Russell behind. He’s such a promising young talent.

Not only was he robbed P3 by a Ferrari engine, wtf is this DotD?!

Lando Norris - 45.5% Lewis Hamilton - 12.1% Oscar Piastri - 10.8% Sergio Perez - 8.1% Max Verstappen - 5.1%

10.8%?! That should’ve been in the 20s at least!

Agreed. I would chalk it up to the British home crowd voting heavily in favor of their guys.
It’s an online global vote though.
Sure. But at the British GP I would guess the percentage of British fans engaged and voting in it is higher than other nationalities. Just a guess though!
How tf did Lewis get the second most votes for lucking his way onto the podium with a well-timed SC?
If you ignore Max this season is actually very competitive.
Merc, Aston, Ferrari and McLaren all fighting over 2 podium spots is cool! Perez is just chilling for a year.
It’s crazy how Perez has fallen this year. Towards the beginning, I thought he might be able to fight with Verstappen for the Championship. Now I’m not sure if he will still have a seat at Red Bull next year.
I can’t see any way Perez has a seat at RB next season. I’m not 100% sure he’ll have one by the end of this season.
End of season? Let’s see what happens next month during the summer break.

In his favour is the fact that I’m not sure who they have to take his seat in the short term. Not sure either of the Alpha Tauri drivers would be promoted, and DeVries is fighting for the AT seat as it is. There’s Dan but I’m not sure he’d be promoted to the lead team. If he got a seat I think it’d be DeVries’ on a short term contract.

I think they had an option on Albon, so if the conditions of that transfer to Williams are still favourable to RB maybe they can bring him back, but not sure they would. They did back him on the year off and kept him on the grid though, so who knows.

We don’t have visibility of it but maybe there’s a wildcard in the group of drivers where they can poach a driver by them triggering a performance clause in their contact that allows a transfer to the front runner team.

There’s a few drivers outside F1 that get mentioned but it’d be a big showing of faith to pull one of those into the Redbull.

Given where we’re at, I think Perez might be in trouble for end of next season if he can’t turn it around. I assume the team would expect him to take 2nd in the drivers championship this year and anything less will put a stack of pressure on the seat. Right now I don’t think it’s a given he’ll take second. That said, he may be safe for the remainder of his current contract, through to end of next year, if there’s not a better proposition and Redbull is still winning.

Maybe they should bring Vettel back.

I said the same exact thing after the race. The rest of the field is so much more interesting. Without red bull this would be one of the best seasons.
Can’t help but laugh because the camera’s pretty much never showed max as its just a forgone conclusion and quite boring now.
Is McLaren going to fight at the top now or it’s a fluke?

We’ll have to see.

Hungary is a totally different track, so if they’re also quick there then we may be in for some fun!

The interesting part is that McLaren were fast in the corners, so that’s a good sign for Hungary.
That’s a good point, actually. His sector 2 pace was what kept him ahead of Ham.
The fight with Hamilton showed that their car is doing great on top speed and high speed corners, but not low speed corners. I won’t be surprised if slower circuits will see them dropping back around front of midfield.
I’m happy for Lando and McLaren, but wtf was that Ferrari strategy? They were even more clownish than usual
What was Plan B, Ricci? I forgot.
He doesn’t care anymore
Sainz tunes out at the strategy session because it is all shit anyway.
Part of me thinks that plan b was really bad and Carlos was daring them to say it on radio to make them think twice about it.
Kinda hoping leclerc gets an unsafe release penalty that gets Logan in to the points.
Their tyre deg is just too high
Max topping the WCC with only his WDC points really sums of 2023 thus far…
Selfless Max keeping Checo in a job.
Fuck max but a great race. So happy for Lando and Lewis.
I really hope McLaren can keep this up, great performance by Oscar and Lando! Max also looked happy to see a fresh face next to him on the podium.
Really enjoyed that one. Great to see McLaren show pace like that again, makes you wonder what might have been possible if they were able to deliver this car at the start of the season. Really happy that Lando has been given a car worthy of his talent, hopefully it works well at other high-speed circuits. Also Max talking about praying Oscar didn’t understeer into him as they went side by side through Copse was hilarious.

Some great battles in that race. Very enjoyable.

RIP Alpine

Max is so boring.
Idk man, it’s like a hokey action movie. You know the outcome from the start, and all the threats are superficial, but that’s kind of what’s fun about it. Gets passed by nearly 2 McLarens (🤡🌎) off the start, Lando gets just over a second margin right before DRS is enabled and the crowd thinks “Let’s see how long it takes him to get out of this one” rather than “Will he get out of this one?”
Albon holding off LeClerc while fighting with Alonso was something else
Great win, very nice to see Lando doing well and got some enjoyment out of the British public having to listen to the Dutch anthem (you could feel the pain sweep over the crowd 😀)
One of the rare races that enjoyed this season.Redbull dominance continues to killing my passion for this sport.

Did you have any passion left? Because if this current dominance is depleting your passion I wonder what was left after the 2014-2020 period. Are you still a F1 fan or are you clinging on and 1 more year of dominance will ruin F1 for you? Because I have some new for you if this is the case: Max will dominate some more years I think.

Or some other team starts to dominate. Say if that was your team/driver, would you also lose interrest in F1?

dont support any of the teams.I love competition and i know that this is not first time history we see dominant teams but I just want to see 1st and 2nd drivers competing for race win.

Great race overall, probably equally as good as the Austria Sprint.

McLaren was the headliner and Norris rightly got all the plaudits for an amazing drive, but it’s a shame more fuss hasn’t been raised about Piastri. He would most likely have had a podium if not for the unlucky safety car and continues to show that the hype was not unwarranted. It’s going to be very interesting to see what he can do in a car that can actually perform.

Aston continues to struggle, though this track was never going to be suited for them, and Stroll delivered a patented yo-yo performance by following up a solid showing in Austria by being very poor today. Alonso did what he could and displayed some great defensive positioning, but 7th was probably the best they could hope for here. Hungary should be a good track for Aston and so that’s when we’ll get a true measure of how far behind the pack they’ve fallen.

Shambolic race by Ferrari, though their car seemed just awful today. Wasn’t fast enough on the softs and couldn’t get temps into the hards.

Not much to say about Red Bull, I feel like we’ve seen this race multiple times already this season from them. It was nice seeing Max at least briefly involved in battles, but otherwise it was another comfortable victory for him while Perez fucked his quali and executed an unremarkable bare-minimum recovery drive.

Shout-out to two drivers who will be forgotten this race. Gasly was doing really well until his car did an Alpine, so it’s unfortunate he probably won’t get any credit, and finally a solid race by Sargent, but he didn’t get any points so I imagine nobody will have noticed.

Gasly’s car didn’t do an Alpine. It just got Strolled.
Was the contact that bad? I know they touched but it didn’t look forceful enough to break Gaslys suspension. I’ll look at it again.
It looked like it to me. The clip starts here on the race highlights. Once stroll returns to within track limits, it looks like direct wheel to wheel with harder contact on the rear right, which seems to have been what caused the suspension to break. at ~6:43 they show the onboard from Gasly’s view and it was hard enough to jolt him, and only after Stroll made contact did the Alpine begin to crab.

I think you might be right, I’ll edit the post.
I really wish spoilers weren’t in the headline
I agree, or in the thumbnail!! So frustrating when you’re waiting for the highlights show on TV and scrolling only to have it spoiled for you!! 🙄
The admin of the sub claimed earlier today a mod team is being put together so I hope we’ll have clearer rules and better enforcement soon. This sub is much more lively right now but [email protected] is better moderated. Bit of a shame.
I’m subbing to whichever doesn’t allow title spoilers and blocking the other

We went through this back in the day on r/Formula1, banning spoilers restricts the conversation.

I get that sometimes you’re not able to watch live, restrict the Formula1 content you consume during that time.

You can’t have the entire F1 community tiptoe around you because you’ve not watched the race.

Having said that, other race series should be spoiler-free in this community.
