Ars Technica looks at the data scraping OF YOU by Twitter & competitors.

Every commercial site takes your data. (Threads needs 4 screenshots!)

#Mastodon collects… nothing.

“Below is all the data collected by Mastodon that’s mentioned in the App Store.

*In the style of Taylor Swift.*

[Blank Space]

That's right, the Mastodon app for iOS won't collect any data from your device. For Android owners, the app may share your name and email address with other companies.”

How Threads’ privacy policy compares to Twitter’s (and its rivals’)

Here’s what is collected by Threads, as well as by Twitter, Bluesky, Mastodon, Spill, and Hive Social.

@chargrille Of course, you're preaching to the choir with most of us here. This needs to be posted on Threads, et al.

@CarlG314

Sure! anyone is welcome to post a link or screenshot of this tweet on other platforms! With or without attribution, I don’t care.

I’m not joining the new billionaire brainchild platforms like Bluesky & Threads, because their founders have deeply etched records of destroying democracy for their personal profit &/or political beliefs, including siding with fascists & promoting genocide, disinformation campaigns, racist/ethnic violence, & human rights abuses against women & LBGTQ.

@CarlG314
Also, I’m not trying to preach with this post (though I have shared very strong opinions on this topic elsewhere).

I do think data privacy is highly important in context of reporting on how disinformation war/campaigns are going to be even worse in US 2024 elections than they were in 2016. We should think about which platforms are most vulnerable/friendly to those bad actors, & which are compiling the most granular information that can be used by the GOP & foreign influence campaigns
