vegan food is not necessarily cheaper.

it's not necessarily better for the planet.

it does no good for animals.

you can't be sure it's better for anyone's health.

I could wish you were right, but you're over-promising.

Hi there! I hope you don't mind if I join the conversation.

1. For the public, it doesn't have you, you're right. Processed food always requires to pay an extra. So, if instead of lentils, tomatoes, pasta, rice, beans, fruits and stuff like that we eat pizza all the time, then it's going to be expensive.

@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister But, considering the impact on the planet (environmental and sanitary) we are paying way more as a society.

I made this wiki with many resources: https://reddit.com/r/MyOwnVeganWiki

My Own Vegan Wiki • r/MyOwnVeganWiki

This is a sub created so I can host here my Wiki about veganism as a **source of information** about veganism

@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister 2. Same, you can be vegan and destroy the world with a nuclear bomb, but the impact of veganism has a great impact on the world. Check Our World In Data (Oxford University) - Environmental impacts of food production https://ourworldindata.org/environmental-impacts-of-food
Environmental Impacts of Food Production

What are the environmental impacts of food production? How do we reduce the impacts of agriculture on the environment?

this doesn't prove that industry would become less polluting if I or anyone else became vegan.

it's also based on the the poore-neme ek paper which is dubious to me
@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister hey, do you have a discord account or something so we can discuss this in a more comfortable way?
@moshtodon
I also use matrix XMPP Mumble IRC and email
@vegan @Resister
@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister good! Does matrix allow can talk in voice chats?
@moshtodon
it's asynchronous. you upload a voice clip.
@vegan @Resister
@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister I've made a quick search and seems like they do support VoIP calls, is it ok for you if we continue this conversation there? https://element.io/blog/introducing-native-matrix-voip-with-element-call/
Introducing Native Matrix VoIP with Element Call!

Hopefully in-person meet-ups will prove much easier in 2022 - but, there’s still a need for video calls, so let’s face it, they’re here to stay. This makes it really exciting to present Element Call: the world’s first decentralised voice and video conferencing app powered entirely

@moshtodon
I'm happy to argue with you but I hope you're not under the impression that I haven't investigated this issue.

@bigMouthCommie @vegan @Resister and it makes sense: we get energy from our food, and we use it to move, breath, keep ourselves warm, fight diseases, grow and keep our daily lives. The same happens with the cows, pigs, chickens... They are fed with plants, just a small portion of this energy is used to grow their muscles and bones. Most of it is "wasted" in keeping themselves warm, move, fight diseases... So for us to eat animals we need way more plants, because it's a very inefficient process
@moshtodon
animals are mostly fed plants or parts of plants that people don't want to or can't eat. they're fed the leftovers after processing crops for human uses. we don't need to grow more plants for them. they graze or live off of our seconds.
