Unhappy with the harm and disruption self-driving cars are causing in San Francisco and other places? You can disable one by gently placing a traffic cone on the hood. Here is a video with examples. There is also a public hearing coming up on July 13 2023 about this. And here's one of David Zipper's articles about the topic. Hat tip to his recent tweets about this for these sources.

Robotaxis Are Everywhere in San Francisco Now. But Something’s Wrong.

Blocking transit. Driving on the sidewalk. Speeding away from cops.

@coreo oh fuck these things 😾🚫

@ranyart I want to do this to them so badly. I'm so sorry your city is a testing ground for this bullshit.

Also I wish we could do this to the tech company busses....

@coreo So, when a self driving car kills somebody, who goes to jail?
@samhainnight @coreo Here (UK), the person in the driver's seat never stops being responsible. And if the car doesn't have someone in the driver's seat, the owner is responsible unless they can realistically demonstrate it was stolen. (Not that auto-drive is legal here anyway. Assists, yes, but you're still responsible for what it does unless you can show a malfunction covered by a duty of care, e.g. ABS failing is no excuse if you were going too fast in snow.)
@coreo I don't want to detract from any authentic complaints that folks have about these vehicles, but the 'partnering with police to record everyone' claim sounds outrageous. Does anyone have any references for this?

@coreo lol I'm not going anywhere near those things. Probably pop open it's hood and try to eat me 😭
@coreo "unalived"?
What's up with that?
Is "killed' a banned word on tiktok oslt?
@n3wjack @coreo It's not necessarily 'banned', but using it can lead to being shadow banned. I think some of it has to do with the algorithm. You might get reported, you might not. But it could effect the algorithm. It's pretty common on TikTok to use unalived
@n3wjack @coreo TikTok lingo is horrifying, they change every second word to comply with the algorithm and are fine with it
@coreo If someone tries this, please post! Also, from the article: “Strange as it may seem, California stops requiring that AV companies share disengagement data and collision locations as soon as they begin collecting passenger fares, as Waymo and Cruise now do. From that point forward, if an AV vehicle jeopardizes safety on the street—for instance, by causing a crash or blocking a transit line—the public won’t know unless the AV company chooses to publicize it…” so that’s horrifying.
@coreo 👍 yeahhhh if we wanted killer robots everywhere they should at least look sort of badass instead of like a flock of subPriuses
