Oh! This would be a **big** boost for Midtown in #Detroit.

Detroit has one of the finest art museums in the world.

The elimination of surface parking lots?

Count me in!

The plan would convert the DIA parking lot on John R into green space in an attempt to better link Detroit's cultural institutions.

And here is the second part of the Phase One plan - converting a surface parking lot into green space.

I have enclosed the surface lot in question with a red outline.

@adamjcook

I couldn't finish the article due to the paywall. I recall the DIA having a garage, although there is surface parking on the other side of John R. Is the plan to redevelop that land?

My most recent visit to DIA involved arriving via MoGo bike and departing via the QLine streetcar. Not having to drive made the experience of visting an outstanding museum even better.

@adamjcook Never mind my question. I see the answer in some of your other posts.

@phxrailfood I added a few Toots and images after my initial one that I believe should answer your questions. 😀

But, yes, the surface parking lot you mentioned is proposed to be converted into green space - which is very welcome.

That is great you were able to car-free on your visit!

I would really like to see the People Mover be expanded to north all the way up to New Center and east and west to Corktown and Lafayette Park/East Canfield, respectively.

Then, we would really be in business.
