JonJust deleted the YouTube app from from my phone because it recommended that I watch Nigel Farage whine about banks of GB News. I tried to block the whole GB News or find some way to indicate that I do not want this sort of recommendation and because I could find no options for either of these things I just deleted the whole thing. There is good content on YouTube but it also loaded with ads and crap and unnecessary elongated bullshit videos. I wish there was a better alt UI for YouTube.
@scrwd I just wish there was a real youtube alternative. Duckduckgo video search is nice because it pulls from everywhere and a lot of times you can watch the video using their service as a proxy but it isn't really an alternative so much as a way around the bs

grmon@philosophene @scrwd in Germany ddg still only shows YouTube. Different country, different legal stuff. For removing ads I recommend Opera. Worked flawlessly for me removing the yt ads.

@jan I'm on an iPhone and there seems to be no good alt UI there. I'd really like a way to search, make playlists and use Chromecast to watch videos from an iOS app that isn't the official app

@jan no problem, thanks anyway. I think I have found something for iOS - it's a browser app that has a YouTube ad blocker and supports Chromecast whilst hopefully avoiding notifications. It's not the clean UI or separate playlist management I was hoping for, but it's something and app looks pretty solid. I've shared the link here for anybody else reading. It has an invite code on the link - if 3 people follow I will get upgraded - just a full disclosure.
