My first honest impression of threads: it sucks. It seems to prompt typical IG stuff from the fashion and travel world. Zero stuff from tech or the IT world. Not a Twitter or Mastodon replacement unless they fine-tune Algo and everyone joining it. We are all stuck here for now ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‚
@nixCraft meta threads for the normies, mastodon for the nerds. Both federated together in an unholy alliance.
@nixCraft I want to see stuff from the tech and furry communities. I doubt it'll give me either reliably.
@nixCraft That's a good point! I think something a lot of people tend to miss is how the algorithm in these places is also designed to showcase certain topics more than others. Politics, "influencers", art, and things that can sell well are often amplified because they are more likely to catch the user's attention.

@nixCraft yeah, for better or worse.

Threads have the same vibe as Instagram: Influencer stuffs, "big follower" energy. It's literally Instagram but with twitter-like platform.

@nixCraft
If u need to go someplace a random algorithm is showing you information, instead of curating your own collection, your life has taken a serious wrong turn.

@nixCraft counter-point. Mastodon in my experience has sucked because it's ONLY tech and IT. Regardless of if it's the discover page or just interactions of my following.

Twitter and YouTube are the only sites that have semi decent algorithms that can handle god forbid you have more then one interest

@nixCraft I don't think Meta (or Zuckerberg) can come up with a real alternative to Twitter or Mastodon because everything is about monetization. I am going to create an account, I have Insta and FB already.
@nixCraft I compared it to a noisy outdoor concert compared to a nice quiet coffee shop. I prefer the coffee shop.
@nixCraft just more of the same, with yet again a recommendation algorithm. What is even the point of trying to federate...
@nixCraft I'm not opposed to that at all. After all, it'll be a Fediverse instance which is only good.
@nixCraft i'd think a site called threads would show up content on fashion. ๐Ÿ˜›
i guess their excuse would be to let them track you, so they can figure out you like IT stuff, because who in the whole wide galaxy can ever imagine nixCraft to have anything to do with tech or IT? ๐Ÿ˜‰
@nixCraft, I'm happily not giving more data to Meta.
