Looking for feedback from pdx.social users about allowing federation with Meta's new threads platform. My main concern is that data from our server that makes it's way into threads will then become part of Meta's data collection.

The fact that they can't launch in the EU because it would prevent them from mixing their data sources for advertising is telling.

@foozmeat After reading the latest blog post from Mastodon on the subject I change my mind to being in favor of federation with Threads on the basis that Mastodon is built to limit cross-instance privacy issues.

What to know about Threads

There’s been a lot of speculation around what Threads will be and what it means for Mastodon. We’ve put together some of the most common questions and our responses based on what was launched today.

Ooo, that's interesting. I've been reconsidering myself. I'm not sure the privacy concerns are more of an issue whether we federate or not. And individual users can block the whole instance should they choose. I want to encourage Fediverse participation, if we can do it safely.
