Posting to Lemmy be like - Lemmy.world

so much for a picture of beans
So sad to see this place fall off. Truly a shadow of its former self.
What do you mean? Kbin and lemmy are thriving?
Just a dumb joke about the lack of beans.
Bean the change you want to see in the world.
I'm calling for a Lemmy blackout until the bean content returns!

Isn't that just saying "most content is set to undetermined"? I.e. most posters don't care.

I think most users/viewers would have English and undetermined set, so it should be a good idea to use English for English content.

I wish more posters would use it so foreign language posts wouldn’t show up in my All so much lol. It’d be nice if you could have a default language that set your posts to that and you could change it if you want. I imagine 99+% of posters will only ever post in one language.

#shitamericanssay

More than 60% of Europeans speak more than one language.

True, and I agree 99% isn't true, but I don't think 40% is either.
I speak two languages fluently and have somewhat of an understanding of a third, yet have still posted 100% in English so far... and that's not my native language.
Wasn’t trying to argue it was 40%, was just trying to give an example of why the “99%” figure was laughably off base.
“Foreign” languages communities aren’t big enough for people to only post in them. Most people will post in English too.
Yeah 99% was definitely an overstatement, honestly I forgot the fact that people would still post in English even if it isn’t their own language just because of how ubiquitous it is online. I still think the feature would help a lot and it wouldn’t make it any harder than the current state for people that do post in multiple languages.
There needs to be a default posting language you can set in your profile
I had to play with these after I tired to post somewhere and it told me “language not accepted”. Setting English cleared this up so I could comment.

Those settings seemed to do nothing on my end.

At least I didn’t understand how.
