Sony 'Expected to Release a PlayStation 5 Slim Later This Year' Priced $399.99, Microsoft Says - IGN - Lemmy.world

TL;DR - Microsoft is fighting for their purchase of Activision-Blizzard to go through. Their latest argument is that they’re in third in the console wars (behind the PS5 and the Switch) and Sony will likely make more money from the PS5 Slim which they claim is releasing later this year at $399.
I’m not going to claim to be an expert on mergers and market competition, but it seems to be a really weird argument to allow them to buy Activision. I guess a lot of this is throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, but it comes across as though MS have the attitude they’re owed a better place in the market and it’s so unfair Sony are doing better. Almost as though they expect governments to allow it to give them a catch up because their uncompetitiveness isn’t their fault?
Well the main reason to block the purchase would be to prevent a monopoly so their point is that they’re far behind so the purchase will put them more on par. I don’t know if I buy that logic but that’s what they’re trying to say.
