No matter how smart and educated you are, you still need someone to call you out when you're being an idiot.
@DammitMooMoon I think one of the most serious symptoms of intelligence is being aware of the possibility you might in fact be an idiot, and cultivating appropriate friendships as an early warning system in case you start behaving like one.
@SilkenClaws For practical purposes, I agree. Though I would label that more as wisdom than intelligence. I tend to think of intelligence as the raw power of the brain, while wisdom is the application of such power (and others). So, for example, I know many wise people with intellectual disabilities. And many intelligent people who are horribly wrongheaded.

@DammitMooMoon I think I'd add knowledge to the list as a separate but entangled concept.

I think intelligence is about a capacity for perception - the capacity to conceptualise and abstract - and there are many types of that. Wisdom is about understanding people and drawing from experience, be that your own or someone else's. And knowledge is just information, facts etc.

By those definitions, I certainly know a lot of educated people, who profoundly lack intelligence and wisdom haha. And of course, people who lack an education but have both in abundance.

@SilkenClaws Yes, I think that's a good division!
@DammitMooMoon And that is a service I provide free of charge.
