I'm sorry but... 2 million people signed up to the permissions access that Threads is demanding!

I know, I know, stupid is the new black but bloody hell people - stop providing real life examples.

@kcfromaustcrime Wow, looking at the android app permissions[1] this is quite extensive, isn't it? Did you see the Mastodon founder's blog post[2] regarding Threads? I've bookmarked it but haven't read it yet.

I never installed WhatsApp before you could refuse to give it permission to suck up all your contact info. (Only really used it during a recent extended family trip[3] where a group chat was used to coordinate.)

Ohhh, I'm stealing that! I love it.

[3] Kangaroo Island is awesome. The thirty relos we went with were mostly good, too.

@evmcl

The permissions listing is horrific - I mean no way / no how.

Thanks for that link to the blog - hadn't seen that at all, and really pleased you enjoyed Kangaroo Island. That many relos in one place is quite an achievement :)

@kcfromaustcrime I deleted the Facebook app years ago for several reasons, but the excessive permissions was one of them. Looks like Meta are still making the same mistake.

@static I guess they can get away with it because the great majority of people don't care / refuse to understand.

The same people that whinge constantly about how they keep getting ads served to them that match whatever they searched for and how does it know and why does this keep happening and whatever else they are banging on about as I'm heading the other way from them at a million miles an hour.
