Kinda baffled by the "we need a female Indiana Jones" discourse rn.
I mean.... Lara Croft *exists*.

@charliejane This is an interesting topic because I didn't watch the most recent movie, but "rich person who raids tombs for her personal gain," is a bit different than, "stop rich people from exploiting history."
Is there something I don't know about Laura Croft that makes her a more sympathetic protagonist?
Except Croft didn't do it for personal gain. She, like Jones, was attempting to stop the baddies from destroying the world (unlike Jones, her baddies varied). There's no denying she was rich (born into the aristocracy), especially compared to a University professor's salary, but her wealth had nothing to do with her archeology - which (in some timelines) was the reason her family disowned her.
Also The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010):
Indiana Janes?
@charliejane I am absolutely 100% on board with swapping race or genders when it comes to titles. Black Captain America? Bad. Ass. Jane as Thor? Kick ass. All-female Ghostbusters? Absolutely. (Wasn’t as good as the originals—don’t kill me!)
But Harrison Ford played a PERSON. His NAME was Indiana Jones. Ford didn’t try to co-opt anything, did he? Just leave him be. Fuck, not absolutely every single piece of popular media with a white cis male protagonist needs to get this treatment.
@semioticstandard @charliejane
Ok, but being that "Indiana" was the dog - there no requirement that the human who adopted that name be a boy.
The Beachcombers ran on CBC for 19 seasons. Now Blair Peters and Josh Mepham are working to bring it back as an animated series.
