Lead dev for Threads makes me cautiously optimistic.

@EposVox It’ll be interesting to see what happens. The fact that they’ve mentioned “you may one day end up leaving Threads” is highly unusual for someone to post when working on something that they want people to use. Lots of good sentiments here! Thank you for sharing this.

My Opinion Follows

It is a bit sad that so many instances have opted for defederating before Threads was even able to federate in the first place. I see mention about “spying” and “nothing will be private”, but you know? That’s the risk we all take when we do anything on the internet.

To be honest, I’m excited for the influx of users this should bring to the Fediverse. They may be on a questionable platform, but they will now have an option that they never had before. The option to leave and bring their community with them. The more instances that defederate with Threads, the harder it will be for people to leave Threads.

@frostyfrog I very much agree with this. The amount of jumps I’ve seen to defederate in general on here is very depressing and kinda ruins a lot of the potential.
@frostyfrog @EposVox I think people have been bitten by Meta so many times now that they are SOOOOOO wary....
