Oh hi, just wondering: #WhoOwnsBluesky?

Bluesky Social is trying so hard to keep its ownership secret - successfully so far.

Its spokespeople give obviously scripted non-answers every time they're asked who owns Bluesky, like, "so-&-so is on the Board" (LOL..not the question) or, my personal favorite evasion, "The Bluesky team owns Bluesky."

Convenient when maybe you don't want to come clean about how exactly your incorporation went down & maybe Jack Dorsey defrauded Twitter shareholders.

I don't know if there was fraud on the shareholders, but if I were one, I would be asking some *very pointed questions*.

At the direction of CEO Dorsey (a fiduciary), Twitter shareholders provided the funding for Bluesky - likely about $13m in funding.

Then, while still CEO, Dorsey got Bluesky incorporated as a PBLLP (they also refuse to show their charter & organizing documents), & just...gave these shareholder assets away to some people? Himself? How exactly was this accomplished?

I'm not asking because I want to hear a bunch of assumptions.

I want to actually know the answers.

@chargrille it is apparently owned by the employees and shareholders but not by any corporations
@Estarianne @chargrille it's the apparently that does the heavy lifting here; these documents should be available somewhere.
@mawhrin @chargrille well that's the reporting I've seen, but yeah

@Estarianne

If they weren't trying to hide anything, they'd just answer it with a list of names and their shares. Including whoever has a majority share & effective control (if applicable). They're clearly not being straightforward for a reason. They should show the organizing docs/charter.

@chargrille

Non-answers are answers. If they're evasive, it's because they know the facts would be a huge red flag.

Dorsey is not a good guy. I'm frankly kind of amazed how quickly people are rushing to BlueSky.

“Twitter's funding of Bluesky is not subject to any conditions except one: that Bluesky is to research and develop technologies that enable open and decentralized public conversation.”
