Urbanists.social users: should we block threads.net (Meta’s new ActivityPub app)?

We have two options:
- Limit them (meaning you can still follow people there)
- Suspend them (you won’t be able to interact with them at all)

Keep in mind that regardless of the outcome, if the app has insufficient moderation and / or allows hate speech it will be limited or suspended under our defederation policy. https://urbanists.social/@miyelsh/110656484360726169

@admins, have you announced that you will be blocking threads.net from this instance? If not, could you make a poll?

Urbanists.Social
@admins could you do a follow up poll with the top two winners? I feel like limit and suspend is splitting the vote. I personally vote limit.
@admins I voted "nothing" because I think we should wait and see what Threads does (if anything; Meta just blew how many billions on their Third Life vaporware?) I suspect, as the admin says, that if they do federate they'll probably have crummy moderation and we'll take action then.
@admins Will votes for "suspend" be seen as votes for "limit" if "do nothing" does not make a majority? I'm just thinking as somebody who voted to suspend that I'd rather have something done than nothing. My point is, there currently seems to be a clear majority (combined 60% as of now) for taking some steps against Threads, but not for either of the two constituent avenues for action.
@WGH Yes!!! Sorry did not realize this when posting it but suspension votes are also an implied vote for limitation, as suspension is just a more severe form of limitation.
@admins Thanks for the clarification!
@admins A comment on your voting options: you have two choices to reduce interaction with Threads, and one to take no action at all. This could (and as of my writings *does*) lead to a situation where the majority of overall voters want reduction (36%+23%=59%) but they lose to a minority want no action (41%), resulting in the will of the majority being overpowered.
@robertjamesftw Oops thank you for that important point!!! I guess one way to think about it is, suspension includes limiting. So we have a majority of users who voted at least for limiting. Then we can run a second poll and decide to take more drastic action if needed.
@admins I am not on my urbanist account but the reports of the active accounts and moderation on threads.net leads me to believe this is a rhetorical question since the policy will end up invoked unless special consideration is given
@DuncanWatson Can you provide more context? I’ve been offline all day so I’m unaware of what’s going on.

@admins @DuncanWatson

LibsOfTikTok, MomsForLiberty, and more have been active on the platform since day 1 and have been targeting trans folk calling them groomers, which Meta is doing nothing about.

@admins sorry for the delay but fancy sandwiches covered the basics
@admins Wow, a 1% split for top two options! Maybe the poll should be extended.
@admins
I voted "do nothing" but I'm thinking now I'd rather limit or block.
@admins I think threads will be different. Especially since it will be the same people using twitter and instagram.
