Last thought re #Meta and #Threads then schtum hopefully. Meta have allegedly offered funding to some instances that agree to federate with them. Remember running this kind of infrastructure isn't cheap and a lot of us don't like to contribute to the running costs so it is understandable if some instances choose to accept Meta money. I guess I'm just saying that if you can contribute a little something to the instance you are on then that helps keep things less corporate. #Mastodon #fediverse
@emsquared
it has been suggested yes, however not confirmed. Given how certain arguments against defederating seem to boil down to numbers of users and dividing those numbers is somehow unacceptable, there could be othere "incentives". But who knows cos NDAs
@Theriac Yeah. We may never know. I've amended to add allegedly. Thanks for pulling me up on that. Who knows federating from this end might be safer (ish). It'll be the people using the threads app that get data mined (they can scrape fediverse data already. I mean it's pretty public.) Anyway we'll see how this all plays out.
@emsquared
I wasn't pulling you up - just agreeing with you. I'm left scratching my head by a lot of the pro
#facebookers. It's like getting upset because someone stops following you.
@Theriac I know. It's a genuinely puzzling world. People doubly so. I should know. I am people (OK a person). And I'm a mass of contradictions and daft preferences (OK i'm a bloody nightmare. We'll leave it at that).
