@wendypalmer yeah okay please help me #writingcommunity how do we go about self-publishing and promoting a serialised short story series?

I kinda want to go on a pay what you can model with the stories being available for free but you can sign up to a Patreon for extra content OR just having a donate button. But I'm not really sure how people see this going?

Because for me having a community, a group of people who read and share their enthusiasm is what I really want. If people think it's worth their hard earned money then that's nice, but I guess it's not the most important. Being able to be a full-time author is the dream but I'm happy to just treat this as my vocation.

Anyhow tell me what you all think 🤔💬. #writingadvice #writing #writingtips

In my opinion, reaching an actual audience, grow a community, is the hardest part about it. Even if your writing is top notch, as long as your social media game is lacking, you won't reach a lot of people.
And there is no way of growing a community fast. It is a lot of dedicated time to interact on social media and promote your work.

For me, #kofi works well in the range of things I want to offer. You can open a shop there, commissions, get donations.

@morriswayts @wendypalmer Yeah I really agree. This is something I think really needs to be a focus of what we do, and how we do it. What we are effectively talking about is growing a fandom. I'm very interested in how we go about that.

I've got some real ideas on how I can go about that. But I'm definitely going to look into Kofi, thank you for the suggestion.

@zibidicemil @wendypalmer
Yeah, and hashtagging the **** out of your posts helps a lot on the fediverse. Just look at my self-promotional posts, I don't think I am overdoing it with the hashtags there.
@zibidicemil @wendypalmer
And I guess we have to tell everybody that #interaction really makes our day, be it a #favourite, a #boost or a #reply
Yeah, we #write but we also like to hear what #readers think about it. Interaction with the #reader is part of #writerslife in this new millennium. 😜 You see what I did there, aye?
@zibidicemil @wendypalmer
But Ko-Fi has no reach, there is not that big a user platform you can promote yourself to. Whoever has an account there, is probably a creator themselves.
So you still rely on social media platforms, and with losing the birdsite as easy accessible userbase, the struggle is getting even harder.
I still did not find a good way to make myself heard - and I rely totally on finishing some content to hopefully get people to review it and post it to their circles.
@zibidicemil @wendypalmer
So, I guess it comes down to persistence and using different platforms to channel people to your content.
And the casual viral post wouldn't hurt, either :D
My 2 cents.
