Never accept conservative framings of the issues, even in arguing against them; offer your own.

If you have to compromise with conservatives, start the negotiations from your own moral position—empathy and responsibility.

@georgelakoff Your word of wisdom is just what I needed to hear today, thank you. Selfishness and irresponsible stances are powerful drives in the political public sphere. You gain in the long run by not playing by these rules, as long as your (firm, assertive but) moderate voice can be heard over the regressive speech.
@georgelakoff hear, hear👏🏾👏🏾
@georgelakoff When I have to argue with conservatives, reframing the discussion around compassion and humanity almost always results in straight up name calling and derision, with no actually useful rebuttal.
@georgelakoff Funny thing: the ones who purport to or are more the thinkers? They can be embarrassed into professing that stance.
@georgelakoff I think the underlying difference is tribalism vs. inclusion. If you think you should give your own family/race/religion special care and attention and others don’t matter, it’s a different world view from those who think human rights are universal. The result is that liberals care about conservatives and conservatives don’t care about liberals.
