Today I’m launching S3 Files, a client for S3 compatible storage inside the Files app, share sheet, shortcuts and the Finder on Mac.

Technical apps like mine struggle on the App Store. Please tell your S3 loving friends about it.

App Store
@palmin Congrats on the release. I’m sure it’s gonna be top notch. But I have to say the app naming is the least inspiring one among your apps.

@taxyovio I agree but I think my love of puns is hurting me on the App Store.

So this time I'm trying something extremely direct.

@palmin If my memory is correct, after 9 years of the release of File Provider, there are finally 3 apps which can expose folders: Working Copy, ShellFish and S3 Files.
@mudkip ☺️ I was in contact with OneDrive at one point to help them support this but it fell through.
@palmin Congratulations! I'm excited to try it out.
@palmin Congratulations! Instabuy even when I almost never use S3
@palmin oh man, this is awesome! a perfect replacement for Transmit Drive for me. fantastic work!
@palmin just bought the app. Where do I get URL for connection to BaclBlaze B2? Not working with everything I’ve tried so far.
@cameronbanga It should be something on the form s3.us-east-005.backblazeb2.com to include all buckets or bucketname.s3.us-east-005.backblazeb2.com for just a single one.
@palmin that helps! But now being told my access key is invalid. I created an Application Key in the B2 admin panel, but maybe I’m missing something. Any pointers I could try?

@cameronbanga You are just supposed to create an application key. Did you grant it access to all buckets or just a single one?

If it only has access to one bucket you need to to prefix the address with the bucket-name as you are not permitted to list the available buckets.

@palmin I figured it out, I think I was a weird edge case. All of my buckets were created before 2020 and apparently aren’t compatible with the S3 API. Created a new one and I’m good now.
@palmin what would I use on macos?

@volkersfreunde Not sure I understand the question. S3 Files is available for iOS and Mac.

If you are thinking of hosting s3 buckets from Mac you could look into https://min.io/docs/minio/macos/index.html

@palmin sorry, didn't read the OSX in your toot ✌️ 🤦👌🙏👍
@palmin feature request - support for temporary credentials (e.g. people who use AWS IAM Identity Centre)
@palmin wow this is amazing congrats!!! 💯
@jeop10 thanks 😊
Have been working on it for a long time.
@palmin not a fan of the first thing you see when opening it being a dark pattern popup with a large "continue" button funneling you to spending money.

@lonjil I want it to be super clear this is a paid app even if the trial is free.

It would be frustrating to spend time configure servers and then find out you have to pay.

@palmin ironically, that's the experience I just had. I clicked the X in the corner because I dislike popups and then configured a server, only to find out that the app doesn't do anything unless you pay. (Rather than doing less)

I might buy it when I have an income again, it seems useful.

@lonjil I wish it could be less expensive but the part of the App Store that I’m occupying doesn’t have that many users.
@palmin This is excellent. Being able to automate Backblaze B2 buckets with shortcuts should immediately simplify a bunch of workflows. Lifetime unlocked!
@palmin Unfortunately app (as well as ShellFish and Working Copy) isn’t available at Russian App Store. Please consider change availability to grow user base.
@aam My apps will return to the Russian app store when the aggression against Ukraine ends.
@palmin Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Awesome! 😎
@palmin @simonbs oh hey I see you’re using ShowTime in the demo video too! First time I’ve ever seen it in the wild!

@kanec @simonbs Thank you for making this.

It has been part of my test builds for Working Copy and Secure ShellFish since 2021 allowing me to make demos of features and posting to social media when away from the computer.

@kanec Wow ShowTime looks great! I've bookmarked it and will give it a go next time I'm putting together a demo!
@palmin @dnanian thanks Anders, I’ve already got some of your other apps so this was an insta-buy of the lifetime license for me. Great value too. 👍
