Everyone still on the hellsite: Twitter is burning but Mastodon is not usable, bluesky is meh, and I don't know anyone on T2.

Me: I can toot from an emacs buffer to Mastodon, how much more usable do you need it to be?

Everyone still on Twitter: ... What is emacs?

I really need to perfect my emacs pitch to the unsuspecting now, don't I?

Maybe I can meet my conversion numbers this month for a change. ;)

@SusanPotter Have you talked to them about Org Mode?
@jimmysjolund I am constantly talking about orgmode but I think people around me assume I am just buzzing incoherently.
@SusanPotter @jimmysjolund I have trouble taking about org-mode without sounding like those door to door bible people. “It will change your life if you commit fully to it!” 😆
@SusanPotter
Emacs is a great operating system!
If only it had a good text editor ...
@_cnt0 as a former (neo)vim user for many years this resonates, yet I still chose emacs over it (for the full orgmode agenda stuff).

@katafrakt
I know, I know. For the sake of the joke it's easier to ignore that pesky little fact 😉

@SusanPotter I really want to set this up, but somehow haven't yet. What is the mastodon package to use these days?

@SusanPotter Hi, same-side here 💙, but I need to point out that the answer is in the question. If people can’t understand how to use a piece of software, the problem isn’t the person—it’s the software.

It’s not about technical capabilities. It’s about being intuitive and humane.

As a UX designer, I have to say that mastodon still suffers from some preventable usability issues that prevent everyday folks from feeling comfortable here. Let’s be inclusive in all ways.

@rcbo I think you totally misunderstood the toot.
@rcbo the mansplaining was really quite much if I am honest.
@SusanPotter Totally fair, apologies for the essay of a reply I sent you.
@SusanPotter The most cross I ever got with Apple was when they stopped bundling Emacs with OS X.
@SusanPotter lots of people on Mastodon: What is emacs?
@SusanPotter @lisamelton I was amused at a recent survey here of the OSes that Mastodon users employ — it was about 50% Linux. I somehow don’t think that’s representative of the populace at large.
As a newbie here, I a, not surprised to see Linux is the OS of choice. It has that kind feeling, a bit put together with string and tape, for example, Server not responding is the most common message I have seen after just a couple of hours of use. Hopefully it’s going to get better. It will need to. @michaelgemar @SusanPotter @lisamelton

BRB going to go see if I can Toot from an LG Smart Fridge.

@SusanPotter
Step 1: Find someone who owns an LG Smart Fridge.

Step 2:

Step 3: Profit.

@SusanPotter I’m posting/reading on mastodon using MS-DOS. 😁
@SusanPotter if you use Pleroma you can read toots via Gopher
@SusanPotter Wait for that to sink in, then tell them you can actually schedule your toots from an emacs buffer. That will start the final implosion of all things birdsite.

@SusanPotter The official Mastodon app for Android isn't bad. It has all the notification options you would expect and supports dark mode system setting right out of the box (bonus points for that).
@SusanPotter The one negative is it has this scary as hell prompt that it needs access to all of your Mastodon information, but it isn't worded as clearly as it could be. If you didn't read it carefully enough like I did, it looks like it's requesting access to everything on your device.
@SusanPotter I used emacs for years. Loved it. But I can't imagine using it any more. And maybe that's on me.
