OK #DnD peeps, figure I'll ask here.

Anyone pre-order the new #Phandelver campaign, #ShatteredObelisk? Is it just an expansion of the original Lost Mines campaign or did they tweak that as well?

Wanted to kick off something new with the group and do some pre-work but didn't know if it'd be worthwhile reading the original campaign if they changed/added a lot in the new one.

@MichaelMukalian I have been wondering the same... Like it could be a whole new campaign intended to revisit a favourite adventure. Or it could be the continuation many of us have always wanted. Personally I would like the latter, and I read into one of their messages that it could BE the latter, but I often read things wrong.
@MichaelMukalian After a quick search, this claims it'll be an expansion: https://dungeonsanddragonsfan.com/phandelver-campaign/

Yeah I read that earlier...everything reads expansion, until the new bestiary and the horror slant, which implied to me changes to the original...so in a lil bit of a pickle now as to do I start w/the old now, or wait.
@MichaelMukalian If you're limited on time/energy, I'd say your safe to hold out I think. Can always catch a recap on Youtube if you need to, I'm sure they're out there. If you can spare it, always fun to read through, and it's a fun adventure to read and learn from, for sure!
@jaedia
Yeah I've some travel and vacation time coming up where I can just devore my reading to this...so may be worth boning up on the original, and then tweaking after the new stuff comes out in 2 months. Good ideas.
@MichaelMukalian Good plan! Lemme see if I still have the resources I used for it... Pretty sure it was this: https://www.dnd-compendium.com/dm-resources/adventure-guides/lost-mine-of-phandelver

Yeah I'm just wondering if I read up on the original between now and September, and then try and distinguish between the original and new stuff, or just wait until the campaign is released and start from there...trying to get ahead of the curve.
@MichaelMukalian I guess it can't hurt, right? If you're planning to run it, you'll run it your way anyways! So the extra reading, if there are changes, you can pick the parts that work best for you. The adventure itself says it will be level 1-12 so you shouldn't need the background if it's NOT included, I guess. After all, it's only canon if you bring it in for your own table, right. ;)
@jaedia
100% true...just my technical brain this morning is warring with it...but yeah, can't really hurt :D
