Voting results regarding memes on c/Games - Lemmy.world

Hi all! From now on, memes are forbidden on c/Games. A few days ago, we asked you [https://lemmy.world/post/853166] what you like: memes or no memes. From this, the vast majority voted for a ban on posting memes. The most common argument was to guard the quality of the posts. This will therefore be enforced from now on. Are memes being posted? Please report them to the mods. The memes currently posted on the community will remain. [https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/580c54e9-90a9-4a21-ba82-afe5173e1334.png] From today, we are also introducing an additional rule: It is forbidden to hold give-aways. We as a mod team cannot verify if the give-away is real or if it is a scam. To ensure everyone’s safety, we have decided not to allow these posts either. If there is a need for this, we recommend creating a separate community for this. We would like to thank everyone for the many votes and well-founded arguments in the discussion topic. Cheers!

Does anyone know another community that may focus on giveaways?
There is one, but not much activity over there.
Giveaway - Lemmy.world

for all the giveaways no piracy software

Maybe this?
Gift of Gaming - Lemmy.world

A Lemmy community dedicated to host video game giveaways. Rules: - The only posts allowed on this community are giveaways, no making posts begging for games. - It is highly encouraged that you don’t post any game keys themselves, bots are easily able to claim them instantly. - Remember to mark your giveaway as complete when you have finished it. You can do so by adding “(COMPLETE)” to the beginning of the title of your post. Safety Advice: - Do not click on any links you receive in your DMs. Giveaway operators should only be gifting games in the form of product keys sent directly to the winner’s DMs.

Glad to hear. I think there’s obviously a place for memes, but I value discussion a lot more than image posts.

Now let’s see about blocking photo posts and other low-effort garbage, too, while we’re at it.

It’s pretty clear from the vote and the comments on the poll post that we want this to be the equivalent of /r/games - text posts and links only. If someone needs to show off their hall effect stick mod or a photo of some dude flipping the bird, they can do it in a hardware-dedicated or circlejerk community where that kind of thing belongs (respectively).

Pictures are allowed as long as it starts a useful discussion. This is because a picture can be helpful in supporting the question or statement.

And beyond that. For moderators on Lemmy, there’s pretty little that can be done. We can delete comments and posts, ban someone and lock a post to the community page. That is all there is to it.

Pictures are allowed as long as it starts a useful discussion

Are we pretending that this sort of garbage is going to start a useful discussion? It’s 100% circlejerk material.

Rockstar Games <3 - Lemmy.world

This appreciation post is dedicated to Rockstar Games for pulling Grand Theft Auto San Andreas ($10) off of Steam only to then slap a ENB mod on it and sell it for $60 calling it “Definitive Edition”

As stated in the post. Memes that were posted before the new rules will remain.

I voted for no memes, and I’m really glad we got that, but one thing I want to mention is that it’d be good to have a /c/gamingmemes or something to redirect people to, rather than just a closed “no memes here”. There’s definitely an appetite for that content, and it seems gentler if there’s another community they can be directed to.

(I thought about creating it myself but I’ve never really liked gaming meme pages, so I don’t think I’d be good at hosting one 😅)

Yeah. The games sub was awesome at the old place but gaming was a cesspit with occasional gems. We’ll need that cesspit back in some regard.
So where do we go for gaming related memes?
Good stuff, I enjoy a good meme every once n a while but if lemmyshitpost is anything to go by, can completely overwhelm a feed with stupid stuff.
