Anyone have any recommendations for cheap and good email/webmail hosting for a pair of domains? I've got one on Gandi (the free mailbox is running out) and one on Porkbun ($24/year isn't bad) and i'm wondering about other options
@atomicthumbs I've been using Dreamost for a while and reasonably happy with it. Most things on there have been in maintenance/neglected for a while, so I can't say I'm paying close enough attention to give it a full and up to date review or comparison with anything else, but I've been reasonably happy with it and it seems to have been stable for many years.
@atomicthumbs I've been pretty happy with iCloud+ so far. If you don't care about storage the lowest tier that includes custom domains is only 99¢/mo.
@ultranurd @atomicthumbs oh what I actually might need to pick up iCloud+ in that case. I’ve been wanting a custom email domain name for a bit now.
@ken2a @atomicthumbs It's definitely tied into ~the ecosystem~ (which I'm in anyway) but I also then have good confidence in their security and privacy practices, you know?
@ultranurd @atomicthumbs no I totally get it, I’ve been using Apple products for a while and am knee deep in the eco system with an iPhone, iPad, etc. Getting the email after I buy the mac studio I’m saving up for is just me taking the plunge further

@atomicthumbs https://mxroute.com/ is $49/year for the cheapest storage plan but has unlimited domains and accounts. Seems more than you’re paying now though.

Right now I just use cloudflare’s email redirect to forward to my gmail for free but I can’t send from the addresses so it’s a get what you pay for situation for me

MXroute - Email Hosting

@atomicthumbs i've been using HostGator for about a decade now and it's been pretty swell. not $24/yr cheap, but i've got multiple domains tied to it and it's been super stable. lowest tier is $3.75/mo for 10gb space and unlimited bandwidth
@atomicthumbs I’ve been using zoho for just mail with a custom domain and self-hosted Nextcloud
@atomicthumbs I've heard a lot of ppl say good things about fastmail

@atomicthumbs if an Australian company having your data* isn’t a problem for you, Fastmail is very good

*Australia has some rather egregious government data interception laws, but so many places do these days, idk how much of an outlier they are anymore

@atomicthumbs im very happy with runbox.com
Protonmail also offers hosted email using owned domains

@atomicthumbs i use fastmail because it fits my exacting standards:

1. works
2. hasn't been a Bastard yet (that i know of)

but looks like their basic tier is $36/year
