Just for fun I’ve created a bot that is tooting the entirety of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 : A Space Odyssey frame by frame. It’s going to take about 5 years. A month or so in and we’ve made it to the opening title. Join me in watching the film in slow motion.

Nice! Did you think about threading it?
Although I'm not sure what that would do to server load!
@Edent @2001frames I’ll have a look into that. Also want to see if I can use AI to add alt text.
@mrpjevans @2001frames to be fair on Musk Throttled Twitter it would 570 years
@mrpjevans Interestingly, the novel by Arthur C. Clarke is ~63 k words long (or ~400 k chars).
Could be interesting to mix the two at some point :)

@mrpjevans @2001frames @gruber

Hehe... As if that movie wasn't slow enough already 😁

@mrpjevans will you include the Intermission?
@witewulf Yep. It's going to be quite a dull month or so. 😀
@mrpjevans @2001frames I am SO following this. Can't wait for the closing credits! #2001ASpaceOdyssey #movies

I know it would be too much (and probably not so interesting (but I'm not sure?) to do sound with the whole thing but... it would be super cool to place the

*DUN DUHHHH*s

at the appropriate spot.

@mrpjevans @2001frames impressive but…
@brandonmaul @2001frames Started out as an excuse to learn the API, but I kinda like the result

For those who care about these things.

Wally Gentleman was the creator of many effects for 2001.
He created a company in suburban Montreal, called SPEAC. I had the pleasure of meeting him in the early 70s.

An early NFB film (Universe) with Gentleman's help, was a beautiful animation. It helped inspire effects for 2001.

An ironic fact, left off the last post.
The year of his death was... 2001. Of course.

@mrpjevans @2001frames Reminds me that Gill Sans is just an awesome font.
@mrpjevans @2001frames I have never seen the film, but would prefer to see it in real time.
@JennyW @2001frames I would definitely recommend that! 😀
@mrpjevans reminds me of Bryan Boyer’s Very Slow Movie Player https://medium.com/s/story/very-slow-movie-player-499f76c48b62

Rendering digital images in a new way holds a lot of possibilities

@mrpjevans @2001frames I'm not going to follow... Because it would drive me nuts... But that is VERY cool 😎
@mrpjevans i look forward to the justification that this is somehow fair use 😜
@mrpjevans @2001frames sorry to be the party breaker, but to be honest, it pains me to see accounts like this. It’s wasting space, bandwidth and energy. Better just to see the film.
@lukamarcetic @2001frames That's a fair comment. I'll be donating to the upkeep of botsin.space to offset some of that.
@mrpjevans @2001frames @gruber So black screen for the first month…😎 Still one of the best movies ever.

@mrpjevans @2001frames great minds think alike! I actually built a version of this about 6 years ago, and it's been running on an iPad in my bookcase since then!

if you open https://24frames.guusbaggermans.nl an iPad it can actually run in full screen for as long as it takes! (add to home screen for best view)
