@hesgen a union filled with Tankies tacitly supporting Russia, I for one am shocked… but seriously this was always going to happen if you paid any attention to what UK lecturers defending David Millers deranged theories about Syria.

@JoshHewitson "Filled with" is a bit strong. Most members can't be arsed with such shenanigans. It only takes a small activist minority to fuck things up. That's politics in general.

@hesgen the people sitting back and letting a “small activist minority” push this kind of thing through are essentially as bad. Either 1) they don’t care at all and are happy to be lead by the small minority 2) they actually agree with the activists but are too cowardly to actually stand with them 3) the small minority is actually representative of the whole union.

@JoshHewitson Having been a member of the UCU when working in academia, I can tell you that statement 3 does not apply.
