Some #f1 chat….

I can’t help feeling that the sprint is a bit pointless with the new format? The teams down the back have nothing to gain for Sundays race as that’s decided on Friday…even Lewis said the sprint is pointless 🤔

@kevroberts I agree, but on the other hand I disliked the previous sprint format as apart from allowing good cars that qualified badly to recover it didn't do anything either as the risk of screwing the sunday part of basically the continuing race was too high.
@piglet yeah that’s true too! I do like the idea of a sprint day but think the format isn’t quite right yet, feels like it’s a standalone event that’s been put in the middle of quali and race day.
@kevroberts yeah, that's the biggest downer on the current format. I'd be happy to bin sprints entirely not because I'm against the idea but because I don't think they add much to the weekend currently.
@kevroberts They only seem to work and produce something different if changeable weather coincides with the sprint and/or sprint qualifying. If they are divorced from the main race, i think they should scrap sprint qualifying and try reverse grids in championship order.
@sammallinson completely agree…it feels like a standalone event at the moment in between Friday and Sunday 🤔
@kevroberts I agree this year but I prefer it to the previous sprint race format where drivers wouldn’t take risks incase they tumbled down the grid for Sundays main race. Where it gets interesting is if there are two drivers fighting for the championship like 2021
@Nigel_g yeah that’s also true. I like the concept of the sprint day but not sure they’ve got it right yet…Saturday feels like a standalone event at the moment
@kevroberts I ageee with that - possibly non the worse for it but it feels like a seperate stand alone event for tv.
@kevroberts we didn't even bother to watch the last couple
