So I had a really fun day writing up about Twitter trying to DDOS itself. I didn't expect it to blow up the way it did here, but even more amusing is that someone took a screenshot of that post and cross-posted it to Twitter and now that post is blowing up on Twitter too!

Poor Twitter. Can't catch a break. It's down and even the holdouts want their turn to give it a good kick.

Update: I have to add a screenshot of that screenshot because someone just reminded me that most people can't view the tweet unless they have a Twitter account to login to. It's ironic of me to forget because that's how today's circus got started.

It also shows how a seemingly innocent change like this can snowball into an avalanche of unintended consequences.

Anyway, 4500 retweets later and the party continues.

@sysop408
I'm having a great day, I saw your post before the Felon Musk tweet and it made so much sense.
What a great Saturday, thank you!
@sysop408 I'm so proud of sharing screenshots of your posts! As we couldn't use Twitter the old way, we started sharing via DMs ๐Ÿ˜‹
@sysop408 Gosh, I love the fact that when a user shares a #Twiiter URL, all non-accountholders just get bounced to the โ€˜Exploreโ€™ page...where they can explore indefinitely (much more than 300, 600, etc) and enjoy all embedded media while mining for links leading out of Twitter.

@pettybooshwah bah! I forgot they did that... which is exactly how this whole circus got started.

How very meta of me to forget.

@sysop408 'Explore' was recently tucked in behind the login interstitial, which was also standing in between any click-throughs to Twitter from another site.

As it's working now, Me, non-accountholder, gets an error when clicking through to view a tweet, but then a sidebar link to โ€œfree โ€˜Explore' page all day long!โ€

i.e. it ain't a feature it's a bug, and it's hilarious.

@sysop408 They โ€œfixed" the limitless free exploration. The bottom end of the feed no longer appends perpetually.

As if anyone cares.

@sysop408 You my friend a a true legend. Excellent write up.
@sysop408 was it me? I couldn't stop laughing. So funny! ๐Ÿ˜‚
@sysop408 hopefully all the blucheck magas are demanding their money back from their hero ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

@ecosurrealism @sysop408 Also it can be archived as well. The format is the same and is easy to see. Both on archive today and wayback.
@sysop408 @adamjcook who, me? Nah could be several of us

@sysop408 a friend there shared a screenshot of your write up. Kudos! Since then, I found this article which credits you with the find. Appreciate people that know their way around the code. Apparently Elon doesnโ€™t. He should let experienced software engineers handle it.

Lesson to businesses relying on Twitter for anything - Donโ€™t!

Twitter bug causes self-DDOS tied to Elon Musk's emergency blocks and rate limits: "It's amateur hour" - Waxy.org

An "amateur hour" Javascript bug is self-DDOSing Twitter, sending infinite requests from users related to โ€” or possibly even causing โ€” Elon Musk's "temporary emergency measures" to stop web scraping.
