@mwl He's a mixed bag. Early on the bigotry is strong. But MacDonald learned better until the day he died. For a man born in 1916 he did pretty good.

yeah, reading them in chronological order is a journey. Made himself a better person every year--unlike, say, Ian Fleming.

But I learned some great writing tricks from him.

@mwl even when young and not very evolved, he could write. Toward the end he was as good as they came.
