Reminder that if people come here from Twitter right now, they want to join a community, not get lectured on their posting style. Let’s be as welcoming as we can be.
@ernie Thanks for the reminder , Ernie - welcome #twittermigration we are thrilled you’re here. Things work a bit differently here but we’re pretty gentle about it.
@ernie Exactly. We really need to avoid the "elitist" tag.
@ernie I just came here from Twitter. What's the best way to get started?

@yoshimanix

Blank profiles look stalkerish.

You have 3 feeds, Personal (which will be quiet until you follow 500+ people), local (mas.to will be busy, I imagine) and the unmitigated chaos of the Federated feed.

Have fun!
@ernie

@ernie corollary: it's a good opportunity to show examples of what our community should be. which is not about lecturing people, but being welcoming.
That’s the least annoying bit. These Mastodon uncles and aunties are unbearable at times.
@ernie @Marrekoo Also just don’t correct other than alt text. Twitter folks are going to be shitposting about Twitter, they’re not gonna post anything worth CW-ing. Lead by example instead of nicely asking. Mutes exist for a reason.
@ernie Hey! I didn’t know you were on here. [follow]
@ernie nice of you. Thanks!

@ernie also remind:

Posting style may don't matter,

BUT Racism, homophobia, Transphobia, Ableism, Mysoginy and Co are NOT WELCOME.

@ernie how can I learn more about the mastodon etiquette ? Thank you
@ernie Very much this. And I found someone in the replies that I never want to interact with in the Fediverse, so that’s cool.
@ernie this is very important to remember. A lot of newbies here don’t care about the technology or political topics that seem to get a lot of coverage here. They just want to troll and/or post memes.

@ernie we do have to keep in mind that there are alt-txt users here. New Twitter folks are very ignorant about alt txt at first.

I don't see how welcoming new twitter folks and having to remind new twitter folks to start using alt-txt goes hand in hand 🤔

@ernie > lecturing existing fedi users on their posting style
@ernie I find it very welcoming here - I was a very heavy bird app user. Don't mind not knowing everything because stuff feeling new is fun. Having some issues figuring out how to fill out my bio but I'll get there. Joined yesterday #twittermigration
@ernie Yes. This isn’t, and shouldn’t become, Stack Exchange.

@ernie
I don't think it's meant as lecturing though.
It's similar to moving into a new house or flat: your neighbors show you around how things work, that are new and what their use is, what's different to your old "Home" + maybe why.

I never felt "lectured" by grumpy "superiors" at any point here in the #Fediverse. Yet, I think, it's nice to be introduced and kindly explained what's different from where  -users came from.
