Sunak told meeting he’d 'get tough on universities full of non-Tory voters'

Rishi Sunak and his Government have changed student loan funding to cut the state’s contribution from 44p in the pound to 19p from September, leaving students to pay off their loans from when they earn £25,000 a year

@adambienkov Sums up conservative politics completely. "Nah, they don't vote for us!".
@BackFromTheDud @adambienkov yep....no wonder btw.
Redrawing what corn is, more survailance with "online safety bill" etc also wont help.
@BackFromTheDud @adambienkov
Also the appeal to toughness/strength/force as an inherent virtue, as part of a kind of stupid zero-sum mindset: what harms one must be good for another and vice versa, so being the big strong guy doing the harm is all that matters.
@adambienkov when he thinks only the Tory faithful are listening his stupid and nasty views come to the fore.
@adambienkov nice of him to spell it out, I guess
@adambienkov Why does anyone like him or rate him?! He is vain and vacuous!
@adambienkov Has anyone told him he’s not supposed to say these things out loud?
@Alexwalters @adambienkov since the Trump presidency they seem to say the silent parts out loud in more and more places. TBH it’s a welcome change of pace. Let them out themselves for what they truly stand for.
@adambienkov These will be the same Universities that are needed to provide the increased numbers of training places for NHS professionals that was announced in yesterday's plan ?

@adambienkov public funding for higher education is already pitifully low - and private funding incredibly high - the ratio is the most extreme across the OECD dataset. Public spending is 4th lowest as a percentage of GDP on HE - less than .5%! The US (which also has a lot of private funding) spends around .9 (which is around the average for the G20).

HE in the UK relies on unsustainable levels of overseas fee income.

@adambienkov Educated people don't vote Tory, says Sunak. Hmmm!
@adambienkov pay to play? In an indirect way. Cutting funding will certainly not change anyone's mind about voting for you.

@adambienkov
In the words of Warren Buffet:
"There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning."

Sunak also knows it.

@adambienkov If they cared about their future, they should have been born wealthy. It is just common sense.
@adambienkov Wouldn’t be a novelty if PM Sunak adopted policies on the basis of they’re being good for the country and not just good for the Tory Party!
@adambienkov random acts of cruelty is a defining feature of the conservative fascist movement worldwide. they believe that they are so morally superior that they use it to justify their bigotry. this is a dangerous mindset.
@adambienkov Hey, he's copying the petty vindictiveness of Hugo Chávez.
