This shit is why people stop contributing to open source and releasing open source projects: predatory companies taking open source projects and calling them their own with little or not contributions back. It burns innovation and demoralizes creators who keep pushing the needle.

As hard as it is for people to break into infosec, people often release open source projects to prove their worth. This kind of shit can ruin that spirit. As a long time member of the #DFIR open source community, I feel like I need to call BS where I see it. Companies must be held accountable and should abide by licensing and contribute back as warrented by said licensing. I hope to see some contributions and good faith back to https://cipp.app/

Hey everyone, sorry for the late response but I was a little ill this weekend. I've seen most of you get outraged about the CIPP-Datto clone and...

@gleeda the responses to that LI post are pretty good.
@jerry @gleeda he's locked commenting on it 😆
@witch_of_winter @gleeda hah! He was getting roasted

@gleeda @jerry oh wow, that's even worse somehow. That is so blatantly illegal im sure the developer of CIPP could sue for a VERY large sum. Especially if he has the declination of higher level sponsorship in writing.
@gleeda the inclusion of the typos, reminds me of the practice cartographers have of leaving intentional errors to avoid copycats.
@gleeda Disgusting. I’m glad it’s being called out, but I doubt they’ll change course at all.
@dostalcody it’s difficult to make companies like this course correct. And unfortunately it’s difficult to enforce some of these open source licenses when the offenders outweigh you as well
@gleeda @dostalcody Since it’s licensed under AGPLv3, @conservancy might be able to help with enforcement.
@gleeda @jerry If we would abolish #copyright it wouldn't be a problem. They'd use our stuff but every company would have at least one employee leaking the source code and everyone could use all code these companies make internally.
@gleeda @jerry FOSS people are all about licenses and stuff while IMO instead we should all be about abolishing copyright. At least on code.

@gleeda Here is a little benefit of doubt. That CEO is pretty good at bullshjt bingo and has the cooperate doublespeak of a bad guy in 1984. He should just have announced CIPP integration openly, instead of trying to pass it off as his own product.
But at least they claim In the comments to be funding CIPP. That is not nothing. Anyone knows how much? Would be interesting to see if he puts his money where his mouth is.

@gleeda thanks for sharing. Crazy story. I follow this because I try to find sustainable FOSS business/financing models. For the niche I am in (audio software), it looks pretty bleak.
