What desktop #linux distribution do you use on a modern laptop?

My venerable laptop is 10 years old and it's battery isn't what it is so I've a new one on it's way.

Now I've used Ubuntu and Mint over the years for desktop use, alternating between the two.

As this one currently has Ubuntu on it I'll probably try the current Mint but what other distributions are people using for daily Desktop/Laptop use?

#linux #desktop #laptop #ubuntu #mint

@peter I use fedora everywhere these days. But a while ago I used alpine on an Atom z8350 based laptop, it was an interesting experience.
@peter Pop!_OS, Ubuntu, and Debian are my choices.
@peter Debian. For best performance, use the XFS filesystem.
@peter I’ve always found Ubuntu does everything I need. I mostly use the Server version (on several old iMacs!) but Desktop works well.
@peter Using MX with very little bother on desktop and laptop. Basically Debian less the systemd, plus some nice distro-specific utilities.
@peter I always use openSuse on my Thinkpads (indeed some 10y old) Tumbleweed on some, but Leap on most, it's always just felt the right setup for me. (always found KDE to be my environment, and opensuse seemed better configured for KDE)
Although I did have a dalliance with LFS for many years until life took over and I didn't have enough hours in the day. 😄
@peter I'm curious, what made you alternate between mint and ubuntu?

@Biorez originally WiFi.

At one point I had Ubuntu on a laptop but couldn't get WiFi working. When I tried Mint it just worked.

On the next machine I tried Ubuntu again and that worked fine, so over the years I've just tried each one in turn to see how they compared.

This specific laptop's now 10 years old but I've rebuilt it many times over the years & again alternated between them - right now it's Ubuntu.

This time I'm wondering if to try something else first for a change

@peter @Biorez
I have ran Xubuntu (minimal install) on old old hardware here - with absolutely no heart burn.

cheers

@peter I use OpenSUSE MicroOS on one, and Fedora Silverblue on the other.
