Hmm so my own #Mastodon server is… kinda working, but kinda not. After a big delay I can search the user and was able to follow it today, and I can see new toots from that user, but the profile pic isn’t showing up and I set up the local_domain and web_domain to hide the subdomain and that works if I’m logged into that server but from this user it shows the full domain. 🤔

Does it take a while for servers to be able to talk to each other properly or have I bollocksed something up with the domain stuff?

Don’t want to migrate over there until I know it’s working properly!

@BradRomance My understanding is that activitypub is very picky about the domain settings and changing it after it’s set up is wonky. I have heard of people hiding subdomains though, I am not sure what method they use.
@stephen Yeah there's a warning about changing domain after going live, but the actual domain hasn't changed, just the "local" domain, which is the actual domain minus the subdomain. I followed the documentation, and I think I did it right, but the server was live before I added the web_domain/local_domain stuff. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@BradRomance Mastodon’s documentation is not as good as people think it is. It’s difficult to read and formatted terribly. It doesn’t make me trust that it’s up to date or even accurate.
@stephen I can well believe that! If it doesn't start working fully over the next few days I'll wipe it and start again with a different subdomain, and won't bother trying to hide it.
